Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)

LMIA is a document that an employer may need before hiring a foreign worker in Canada. Labour Market Opinion (LMO) is an older term for the process. In short, LMIA and LMO refer to the same process.

Most importantly, a review of the application must determine that hiring a foreign national will have a positive or neutral effect on the Canadian job market. Further, the application must make it clear that no Canadian filled that position and had to offer this to a foreign national. To clarify, LMIA process varies depending on the wage of the position.

What is high wage?

Wage above the provincial/territorial median wage is considered as the high wage.

What is low wage?

Wage below the median provincial/territorial wage is considered as low wage.

What is the govt. processing fee?

What is the processing time?

ESDC website has the latest processing times. You may qualify for an expedited service.
